Any advice on prolonging an HP dv2000 Pavilion battery?

My HP dv2000 Pavilion battery only lasts 20 minutes and have ordered a new one, If it's like my brother's HP dv3000 laptop battery, it made a vast difference to (1) fetch a 12-cell instead of a 6-cell and (2) "exercise" the batteries often by running them to near drained, and then charging them back up (a scientist buddy of mine suggested this.calisthenics for batteries?).

Li-ion laptop batteries are quite hardy, so they don't have the 'memory' problem. Some people make the mistake of completely draining the battery (which is bad) before charging, but this is not neccesary. Charge it whenever you want, but never discharge it completely. Also, once every 2 months (or every 30 charge cycles), you should calibrate your battery by deliberately running down the battery until the laptop shuts itself off, then recharge it fully.

The purpose of this task is to make sure the laptop battery gauge remains accurate.Keep the lithium-ion battery cool. Avoid a hot car. For prolonged storage, keep the battery at a 40% charge level.Consider removing the battery from a laptop when running on fixed power. (Some laptop manufacturers are concerned about dust and moisture accumulating inside the battery casing.)
